Airport commissioners mulling how to increase terminal flow capacity | Local News

Representatives of the design and architectural firm Gensler were participating in this week’s commission meeting online. Ideas for a major rehabilitation of the terminal building created back in 2019 were reviewed. Those specs and renderings were used to aid in the discussion about how the airport could handle the influx of people using the airport during such a large-scale event.

It’s been nearly 50 years since the terminal was first built, though it has been renovated since.

The 2019 plans, which presented three different options, were meant to address the need to accommodate more passengers and provide the terminal with a more up-to-date look, along with remedying various other issues.

All of the needs addressed in those plans would require years of construction and come with a high price tag that has only increased since they were created. However, the arrival and departure areas designed then were considered among possible solutions that could be applied in time for the air races to be centered at the Roswell airport.
