James Blackstone Obituary – Roswell, GA

Gene was born on September 25, 1927 in Roswell, Georgia.

Gene served in the United States Army Air Force from 1945 -1946.

Gene was employed with General Motors where he retired and then became an independent

House Painter.

Gene was married to the love of his life, Mary Elizabeth (Fouts) Blackstone for 73 wonderful

Years! They truly enjoyed their many adventures and life together! Gene and Mary’s marriage

was blessed with two children, Brenda and Dennis. He was a wonderful father, grandfather and

great grandfather.

Gene was a member of Willeo Baptist Church, Roswell, Georgia. He joined Willeo in 1949 and

served there until May 22, 2022. He was ordained as a Deacon at Willeo in February, 1960. He

is now a member of Grace Community church in Woodstock, Georgia.

While at Willeo he helped to bring families to Willeo Baptist Church. He was a Senior Adult

Sunday School Teacher for many years and would take the “Seniors” to pigeon Forge, Tennessee

many times. While there they would be able to shop, have sight-seeing adventures, Bible

Studies and Testimonies. He was an Encourager, he helped people financially, he visited the sick

and prayed for them. Gene and Mary also had many suppers, game nights and parties for his

Senior Sunday School Class. Gene had a knack for connecting with people and he touched many

lives. His influence will forever remain in the lives of all the people who knew him.

Along with his parents, Gene is preceded in death by his wife, Mary; his sister, Margorie

Samples and several half brothers and sisters. He is survived by his two loving children:

daughter, Brenda Massey (Reid); son, Dennis Blackstone; one grandson, Chris Massey (Jennifer);

two great grandchildren, Taylor Massey and Parker Massey: one sister, Hilda Barnes; two

brothers, Douglas Strickland (Shirley) and Lamar Strickland {Harriet); many nieces and nephews,

a special friend Kim McMillan, along with many other friends.

Visitation for Gene Blackstone will take place at Roswell Funeral Home on Thursday March
