JV wrestlers take the mat in Hobbs tournament | Local Sports

The Roswell boys’ had four first-place finishes, two second places, and 11 wrestlers who placed sixth or better. The first-place finishers were freshman Hunter Berry in the 107-pound weight class, eighth-grader Daniel Guevara in the 145, Davian Gonzalez in the 172 and Noah Lynn in the 285. Ethan Nappier and Caleb Pacheco in the 189, and Christian Orosco, at 139, did not place high, but combined for 42 points for the boys’ team.

The Lady Coyotes had one first-place finisher, and the rest of the team placed fifth or better. Senior Egypt Clark was the lone wrestler who placed first, beating Goddard’s Gemma Payne in a 6-0 decision. Aceya Ortega placed second in the 132-145, losing only once against Hobbs’ Ava Jenkes in the first round. Starlena Boardman and Brittney Macias both placed third in their respective weight class.

The Roswell teams had a total of 40 pins. Aceya Ortega and Davian Gonzalez led the Coyotes in pins with four each.

For Goddard, the boys had five wrestlers placing fifth or better. In the 127, Deegan Gaston placed first after matches with Roswell’s Aden Ingram and Andrew Fuentes from Carlsbad. In the 189, Riccie Winchester took second after losing against Angel Diaz from Clovis in the first-place match. Casen Ragsdale, in the 139, placed fourth after losing by fall against Clovis’ Fidel Madrid during the third-place match. Ivan Adame, in the 107, did not place in the top five,…
