Madrid-Kane wins state title; Goddard girls place 6th, Roswell boys 11th in wrestling state championship | Local Sports

The Goddard Lady Rockets placed sixth, and the Roswell Coyotes placed 11th overall in the 2024 New Mexico Activities Association State Wrestling Championships last weekend at the Rio Rancho Event Center.

Goddard junior Emily Madrid-Kane became state champion in the 235-pound weight class after falling all her opponents in two rounds. In the first round, Madrid-Kane took down and pinned Grants’ Danika Wilson in 22 seconds. Then, she defeated both Piedra Vista High’s (PV) Dawn Tahy-Sloan in the quarterfinal and Caylee Miller of Bloomfield in the semifinal by fall. Madrid-Kane said she would “Do me” on the mat against Santa Teresa’s Jennifer Rico. The two faced each other last year in state for the third place match.
