Three returners played in the scrimmage: Senior Karyme Lopez, senior Diego Enrike Lopez and Ferrel “JR” Garcia. Garcia is returning from a shoulder injury sustained during soccer and is still trying to get the rust off. Diego Lopez was disappointed with his performance, losing 6-1 and 6-2 against his opponent, saying that he was flat-footed throughout the match and getting back on the courts would help him get back in the groove.

“It was devastating, to say the least,” Lopez said. “I could’ve done better, but it just didn’t happen.”

Against Garcia was Colt senior Fabricio Cano. Cano praised Garcia after their match.

“It was a good and fun match,” Cano said. “He was very consistent: Slices, drop shots, overheads. It was very tactical, and I enjoyed it.”

This is the Colts’ first year with a new head coach for tennis, too. NMMI Tennis Head Coach Steve Huebner took over the position this year and hopes to continue NMMI’s winning tradition in the sport.
