Roswell basketball to face Organ Mountain in state tourney | Local Sports

For the Knights, they are ranked as the second best team in the state with 26 wins and only one loss, according to the MaxPreps rankings. Second-seeded Organ Mountain is currently on a 25-game winning streak with their only loss coming against the top team in the state, Volcano Vista. The 63-43 loss was all the way back on Dec. 9 in Las Cruces.

The two teams had a preview of this first-round match up at the start of the season where the Knights took down the Coyotes at Roswell High. The Coyotes missed 14 free throws, but kept the Knights within range with a final score of 62-58. RHS varsity boys basketball head coach Moses “Dude” Burrola said the team didn’t shoot well against the Knights that day.

This time is different, the Knights will be hosting the game and Coyotes have to play the second-best on their home court.

“It’s hard to play on the road wherever you go,” Burrola said. “We got better throughout district. It prepared us for the state tournament and that’s where we are at. We weren’t at full strength the last time [against Organ Mountain]. The football guys were here but they only had a few days of practice. Hopefully, we can go out there and make free throws, make shots, make layups, don’t turn the ball…
