Denver, March 6, 2024 – Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, based in Upstate New York, is stepping up its lung cancer screening efforts in the greater Buffalo area. The center has partnered with Denver’s health-tech company Eon to employ its cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) patient management software, aiming to enhance early detection and treatment of lung cancer.
Expanding Access Through Innovation
In an ambitious move, Roswell Park launched a mobile lung screening initiative in late 2022 to dismantle barriers to care, offering screenings via a program on wheels to reach more individuals in both rural and urban settings. By utilizing Eon’s Patient Management (EPM) platform, the center can now more effectively track and manage lung cancer screening patients over time, ensuring they receive necessary follow-up care. This innovative approach leverages AI to automate the labor-intensive parts of the lung cancer screening process, enabling care teams to focus more on patients with significant findings and less on manual administrative tasks.
State Funding and Goals
The collaboration with Eon and the subsequent enhancement of Roswell Park’s lung cancer screening program has led to state funding for the initiative. “Knowing that Eon’s lung cancer screening solution will allow us to enroll and screen more eligible patients, and hopefully catch cancer early, gave us the unique opportunity to receive a grant from the state of New York to fund this initiative,” stated Mary Reid, Chief of Cancer Screening and Survivorship at Roswell Park. This funding underscores the state’s commitment to combating lung cancer and highlights the potential of AI in revolutionizing patient care and outcomes in oncology.
