South Roswell temporarily loses power | Local News

Electricity was restored at 11:54 a.m. after the line was patrolled and cleared to be re-energized. Some 6,397 customers, located between South Main Street and Lea Avenue down to Hobbs Street, and the Roswell Air Center lost power.

The outage impacted Sunset, Monterey, Valley View elementary schools and Mountainview Middle School, said Brian Luck, superintendent of the Roswell Independent School District. He added that Roswell, Early College and University high schools also lost power.

Luck told the Roswell Daily Record that school operations were not significantly interrupted, but the school district’s Facebook page said that University and Early College would release their students early.

Roswell City Manager Chad Cole said those two schools operated on a different routing system than the other locations.

The outage also prompted the Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell campus to close for the day.

Passengers at the Roswell Air Center were inconvenienced. Todd Wildermuth, public information officer for the city of Roswell, said the outage prompted the delay of the airport’s 11:55 a.m. flight to Dallas/Fort Worth.

Chaves County Manager Bill Williams said that the air center has backup power operations, which allow the airport to continue to perform some functions in the event of an outage.
