Southside shooting suspect faces murder charge | Local News

Oscar Antonio Vargas, 28, is charged with one count each of second-degree murder, and receipt, transportation or possession of a firearm or destructive device by a serious violent felon, in the deadly shooting of 38-year-old Larry Turner, according to a press release issued Friday by the Roswell Police Department.

Electronic court records indicate that bond for Vargas will be decided when he is arraigned on those charges.

According to the press release, Vargas was still being held in El Paso on a probation violation Friday when the arrest warrant was issued.

Vargas is alleged to have fatally shot Vargas early on the morning of Dec. 20 in the area of East Eyman and H streets. He was subsequently arrested the next day in El Paso on a probation violation.

The criminal complaint filed against Vargas alleges that he shot Turner following an altercation the two men had 30 minutes before the shooting while at another location. Vargas, who was in a vehicle, followed Turner, who was in another vehicle, to the area where the shooting happened.

The complaint says that at the time of the shooting, Vargas was on probation after having pled guilty in May to one count of smuggling of persons.
