DeKalb County substitute teacher arrested for alleged sexual involvement with student

by Fulton Watch News Feed

On Friday the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of a substitute teacher who investigators say engaged in a sex act with a student.

The sheriff’s office says investigators previously receieved a complaint about 45-year-old Stephanie Mechelle Woods of Henagar, Alabama.

Deputies arrested Woods after an investigation and booked her into the DeKalb County Detention Center on a charge of school employee engaging in a sex act with a student under the age of 19 years.

Right now it’s not clear what school or schools Woods worked at or if she is still employed by the district.

DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden said of Wood’s arrest:

I would like to thank our Investigations Unit and the Board of Education for their earnestness in getting this case taken care of. Our children have every right to feel safe at school, and parents have every right to expect it. Our children are our number 1 priority and we will protect them at all cost.
