Among the Stories of Atlanta, is the connection between Underground Atlanta and the impressive collection of ancient artifacts found at the Michael C. Carlos Museum on the campus of Emory University. The thumbnail for this week’s story is a picture of a Coca-Cola advertisement on the side of a building. One of what must have been thousands of Coca-Cola murals across the American South. But this sign, in particular, was in the right place at the right time and, as a result, it is intertwined with the story of Atlanta’s railroads, the history of the viaducts built to protect Atlanta’s citizens from those railroads, the generosity of one of Atlanta’s better-known philanthropists and a trip down-the-hatch for good measure, all on this week’s Stories of Atlanta.
