Alexander boys, New Manchester girls playing for region title | Douglasville Sentinel

Douglas County will play Langston Hughes at 3:30 p.m. in the consolation finals at Alexander.

All four teams have already clinched a spot in next week’s Class 6A tournament.

Alexander will host a state playoff game regardless of Saturday’s outcome with Douglas County having to play on the road.

Alexander is the defending Class 6A champions.

The Cougars are 24-2 and ride an 11-game winning streak into the game.

Alexander went 14-0 in the region during the regular season and swept South Paulding.

The Cougars won 78-68 on Dec. 5 in its first region game of the season and closed out the regular season with an 88-62 win on Feb. 8.

Alexander is coming off an 82-26 win over Douglas County in the region semifinals Thursday night.

Chapel Hill played Maynard Jackson in the Region 5-5A semifinals late Friday night.

The winner advances to the championship game with the loser playing in the consolation finals.

On the girl’s side, Alexander will take on South Paulding in the consolation finals at 2 p.m.

New Manchester, the region’s No. 2 seed, will take on Langston Hughes in a 5 p.m. game to decide the region championship.

Both Langston Hughes and New Manchester will get to host first round state tournament games.

New Manchester is 21-4 overall and was 13-1 in the region. The Jaguars are currently on an 11-game winning streak.

Langston Hughes and New Manchester split during the regular season with the Jaguars winning 59-44 on Feb. 7.

New Manchester lost 58-50 on Dec. 4 at home.
