A Douglasville man has been indicted on several animal cruelty charges for inhuman treatment of dogs on his property.
Merlin Smith, 64, was indicted last week on three counts of aggravated cruelty to animals and three counts off cruelty to animals charges in an eight-page indictment. Smith was arrested on June 13, 2023 for the six charges of animal cruelty at his Reynolds Road residence. The warrants stated that Smith didn’t provide immediate veterinary care for the dogs, which were mostly mixed Pit bull breeds. One of the dogs had to be treated for severe skin infection, according to the warrant.
