Douglasville Police Chief Gary Sparks and Deputy Chief J.R. Davidson said that undercover agents from their department and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office was sold drugs and witness several patrons openly doing drugs.

An underage informant was able to purchase alcohol at the restaurant, according Sparks and Davidson.

“The waitress looked at the (identification) card, and sold alcohol anyway,” Sparks said during a Feb. 12 hearing during a city council meeting.

The waitress received a citation.

In another serious accusation, one of the chefs at the establishment was arrested off premises for possession of cocaine.

“My guys walked in marijuana drug deals going on,” Sparks said. “Undercover was asked if they wanted to buy weed. It just appeared as another day of operation at the place.”

Highlanders owner Nick McCullough expressed his disappointing in the investigation.

“I’m shocked and disappointed for the treatment that my family business has received,” he said to the council. “You want businesses like mines but you like people destroy them with accusations that are not true.”

Davidson cited police reports of during a five-year period involving the restaurant and bar.
