Spay/Neuter clinic fixes sights on 100,000th surgery | Douglasville Sentinel

This Bob Marley, a 12-week-old kitten, became the 100,000th pet spayed or neutered by the West Georgia Spay Neuter Clinic. The white-and-orange tabby walked about contently and posed for photos before his scheduled appointment — seemingly unaware of his newly found celebrity.

“He was brought in by Purrfect Peaches, a cat rescue in town,” said clinic Executive Director Carrie Jetzke, wearing a T-shirt to mark the occasion. “We spay and neuter hundreds of cats for them.”

Douglasville officials plan to declare April 30 WGSNC Affordable Spay/Neuter Day in the city in celebration of the clinic’s milestone.

The West Georgia Spay Neuter Clinic opened in 2007 under the auspices of the Carroll County Humane Society. It relocated from Villa Rica to its Douglasville office two years ago.

Jetzke said the clinic offers affordable services with no location restrictions.

“We don’t consider zip codes,” she added. “We take pets from anywhere.”

With a staff of eight technicians, surgeon Dr. Katherine Pepper sees between 25 to 35 dogs and cats each day. In addition to spay and neuter services. The clinic provides vaccines, flea and tick treatment, installation of microchips and deworming services. Financial assistance grants are available for those unable to afford surgery.

“The general public often finds it difficult to obtain services from other clinics,” Jetzke said. “That doesn’t mean they don’t love their pets. They need options because it’s important that they get I done, even if they’re financially strapped.”
