Although the weather forecast is not leaving much room for outdoor activities, Main Street and partners will still have all indoor fun for First Friday.
The annual First Friday tree lighting will happen at 6 p.m., rain or shine. All patrons are encouraged to bring an umbrella and enjoy the event as Honorable Mayor Mary Parham Copelan showcases a glowing downtown as the tree graciously donated and decorated by Fowler Flemister and Custom Signs and Designs is lit up!
Each year Milledgeville Main Street, in partnership with Visit Milledgeville, hosts a window decorating contest with the downtown businesses. The winner, who will get $200 in Milly Money and bragging rights, will be announced at the tree lighting. After the First Friday Tree Lighting event is a wonderful time to walk around and see all the lights.
Immediately following the tree lighting, Santa Claus will be at Exchange Bank (250 W. Hancock St.) for Cookies with Santa. Children and family are invited to visit with Santa and enjoy complimentary cookies, all hosted by Exchange Bank. Just across the parking lot, Visit Milledgeville (200 W. Hancock St.) will have the cynical, grumpy Grinch at the Visitor’s Center for pictures, cookies, and fun.
The 2023 Merry Milly Market will be open for the preview night from 5 to 8 p.m. at the city’s annex building, located at 127 E. Hancock St. With 16 indoor vendors on site on Friday (5 to 8 p.m.) and Saturday (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.).
