The winners for the 2023 Big Click competition have been announced by Milledgeville Allied Arts, and the exhibit is open to the public.
The Big Click event — an art show displaying central Georgia’s diverse group of photographers, began in 2006.
This is the first year that Executive Director Rebekah Tobar and program coordinator Kristin Allen have organized the event.
“We want to give our local photographers and digital artists a way to get their stuff out there and sell their work,” said Allen. “That’s really our purpose in it because we want something for them.”
The Big Click includes an exhibit along with a contest judged by an anonymous member in the community. The top three contestants receive prizes for their entries. Awards consist of $200 for first place, $100 for second place and $50 for third place. A reception was held Sunday at the Marlor House where this year’s winners were announced.
“Coke is It!” by Bailey Davidson received first place; and “My Love Animal Kelpie” by Edward Burnam received second place; Grace Wood’s piece “The Grove” got third place in the competition.
“It was almost over 40 entries,” said local photographer Bailey Davidson. “To be chosen as one of the best out of that many people is extremely flattering. I never win anything … I don’t think I have ever won anything, so it really was kind of cool.”
Honorable mentions included “Smokey Mountain” by Destyn Bailey; “Piano” by Jessica Whitehead; and “Silent Night” by Maryllis Wolfgang.
“The camera inspired that piece,” said Davidson. “I see things a little different when I am shooting with that particular camera because I kind of know what will work and what will not with so many years of working with it.”
