Chattanooga FC wins at Savannah, closes in on playoff bye

The Chattanooga Football Club has moved a step closer to clinching the No. 1 seed for the National Independent Soccer Association playoffs.

Markus Naglestad scored in the 59th minute of Saturday’s game against the host Savannah Clovers at Memorial Stadium, and first-place Chattanooga FC held from there for the 1-0 victory in Georgia and three more points in the NISA standings.

Naglestad’s league-leading 13th goal of the season made up for his missed penalty kick a little more than 10 minutes earlier, and CFC keeper Jean Gamain Antoine had a save in the 90th minute to help make sure the visitors didn’t have to settle for a tie and just one point.

CFC improved to 13-1-7 with its second straight win since a three-game lull of back-to-back ties and a loss.
