Cross Country Hosts UAH Invitational at John Hunt Park Saturday

HUNTSVILLE | The UAH men’s and women’s cross country teams host one of the premier Division II races with the UAH Chargers Invitational at John Hunt Park on Saturday morning. The men’s 8k race begins at 8 a.m., followed by the women’s 5k race at 8:50 a.m.
 
Live results are available for Saturday’s races. Course maps and race information are available online as well. Parking for spectators is available throughout the John Hunt Park complex.
 
The field for the UAH Chargers Invitational features a combined total of 99 teams with 51 women’s teams competing in the 5k race along with 48 men’s squads preceding in the 8k competition.
 
Several competing squads enter the weekend with national prowess as the teams set to run in the Rocket City on Saturday currently ranked in Division II include Charleston (No. 18), Mississippi College (No. 25), and UAH (No. 29) on the men’s side and Charleston (No. 16), Cedarville (No. 17), Mississippi College (No. 19), Tampa (No. 21), Augusta (No. 23) and Catawba (No. 30).
 
This race also serves as a preview for the 2023 Gulf South Conference Championships, which will be held at John Hunt Park on Oct. 21. GSC competitors on Saturday include Delta State, Christian Brothers, Mississippi College, Montevallo, Union, Valdosta State, West Alabama, West Florida, and West Georgia.
 
The Chargers most recently competed at the Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater, Oklahoma, on Sept. 23 with the men’s team finishing fourth and the women’s team seventh in a strong field that included several Division II programs.
 
Sam Wilhelm has been the leader on the men’s side with top times for the team in two out the Chargers four races, after most recently finishing 15th at a time of 24:59.5 at the Cowboy Jamboree.
