There’s been no shortage of interest for the Central State Hospital Local Redevelopment Authority’s (CSHLRA) open executive director position.

Search committee member Dr. Joycelynn Nelson shared an update with her fellow board members at last Wednesday’s regular monthly meeting. 

“We will conclude our initial search on the 26th of September … We have a lot of candidates,” Nelson said, adding that search engine analytics showed upwards of 100 searches for the job, which was posted two months ago. 

The job was posted across several websites, and Nelson said each site produced applicants. The total number of applications received was not provided. 

“I think the search committee is going to have a tough job, but our goal is to present three to five candidates to you by next board meeting,” said Nelson. 

The nine-member CSHLRA board holds its regular meetings the third Wednesday of each month inside the Chapel of All Faiths fellowship hall. Nelson is joined on the search committee by Randy Peters, Owen Pittman and Calvin McMullen. 

The CSHLRA board — created more than a decade ago to repurpose many former Central State Hospital properties — has been without an executive director since December. Milledgeville City Councilman Walter Reynolds was interim for 18 months before he and the board ended their contractual relationship with one another. He sought the position full-time, but the board said it was not ready to extend an offer to anyone at that point due to concerns of financial uncertainty. Though still often present at CSHLRA meetings, Reynolds is now a Realtor and also operates his own consulting business.
