Georgia Military College will celebrate the service of the nation’s veterans on Friday, Nov. 10 with an Elementary School PAW-sitively Thankful Walk-Thru, GMC Prep School Veteran Art Show, and its annual Veterans Day Parade with special guest speaker, MG (Ret) John King, Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner.
Veterans Art Show
Location: GMC Main Campus, Old Capitol Building Legislative Chambers, 201 E. Greene St. Time: 1 to 2 p.m.
Middle and high school art students at GMC Prep School have dedicated themselves to honoring veterans through their artwork. Studying the distinct style of artist Steve Penley, the students created realistic yet abstract portraits of famous athletes, musicians, artists, designers, actors, and actresses who have served in the military. These remarkable paintings will be displayed along the chamber’s perimeter, showcasing the students’ creativity and respect for our veteran heroes.

King was sworn in as Georgia’s Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner by Gov. Brian Kemp on July 1, 2019, becoming the first Hispanic statewide official in state history. He was elected to a full four-year term on Nov. 8, 2022. Before becoming Commissioner, King spent his career in law enforcement, beginning as an Atlanta police officer in 1985 and culminating as Chief of Police for the City of Doraville. His career also includes assignments to both FBI and DEA as a Task Force Agent.
