CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) — Oregon State has promoted defensive coordinator Trent Bray to head coach, quickly replacing Jonathan Smith after he left for Michigan State. Bray, who also played at Oregon State, had served as the Beavers’ defensive coordinator for more than two years under Smith. Smith was announced as Michigan State’s new head coach on Saturday, a day after the No. 21 Beavers lost to rival Oregon in the team’s regular season finale. Oregon State finished 8-4. The program faces an unsettled future, with Oregon State and Washington State the only two schools remaining in the Pac-12 after this season.

The field for the playoff will be announced Sunday.

They argue the other 10 schools relinquished the right to determine the future of the conference when they announced they would be leaving for other Power Five leagues.
