A Milledgeville 16-year-old was found shot to death inside a bullet-riddled car at the end of Anthony Way in the Duplex City neighborhood of Milledgeville on Saturday, local authorities say.
Police believe the latest homicide, as well as shootings that occurred in the same area two days before Thanksgiving where three residences were damaged, are all tied to gang-related activity.
Although four people were detained by police, no one had been formally charged in connection with the homicide case as of Monday morning.
The victim, whose name was still being withheld by authorities Monday, was found in the passenger’s side front seat of a dark blue Toyota Corolla when police officers arrived on the scene, according to Milledgeville Police Department Maj. Linc Boyer, commander of the road patrol division.
A series of gunshots was heard at the end of Anthony Way about 12:30 p.m., police said.
Baldwin County Deputy Coroner Steve Chapple told The Union-Recorder in a telephone interview Saturday night that the victim appeared to have sustained a single gunshot wound. Chapple said he pronounced the victim deceased at the scene about 1 p.m.
An autopsy will be performed sometime this week at a Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Laboratory where a medical examiner will determine the exact cause and manner of the teen’s death, Chapple said.
“As officers were securing the crime scene, a Baldwin County deputy observed a red Dodge Charger on Dunlap Road and conducted a traffic stop,” Boyer said. “The Dodge Charger had bullet holes, and all four occupants were detained and transported to the Baldwin County Jail for questioning by Milledgeville P.D. detectives.”
