For the third time in the past four seasons, the Milwaukee men’s basketball team will get Horizon League play underway by taking on Green Bay. This season, the two teams will meet Saturday night at the Resch Center, as the “Battle of I-43” gets set for its next chapter to begin. The matchup against the Phoenix is set to tip-off at 6 PM on ESPN+ and have live statistics available. It will also feature the “Educators Credit Union Milwaukee Panther Men’s Basketball Radio Broadcast”, which will air on 101.7 FM The Truth and streaming services. LOOKING AT THE PHOENIX
Green Bay is coming off a challenging campaign, finishing just 3-29 overall and 2-18 in Horizon League play before parting ways for new leadership. The Phoenix then hired Sundance Wicks as the program’s next head coach in March. Wicks came to the Phoenix after three seasons as an assistant coach at Wyoming. The team then underwent a roster transformation in the offseason – of GB’s 15 rostered players, three are returners, six are transfers, and six are incoming freshmen. The squad enters play Saturday at 3-4 overall and has already played one league game – dropping a close 75-71 decision at Purdue Fort Wayne Wednesday. They are also 2-0 at home this season, topping St. Francis (72-56) in their opener and St. Thomas (64-51) this past Saturday. Noah Reynolds leads the offense, averaging 17.4 points a game (good for fifth in the league) while shooting 44.4 percent from the floor and adding 4.9 rebounds per contest.
