Dani Carvajal believes Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti should be allowed to stay at the club for “as long as he wants” as speculation continues over the manager’s future.

The decorated Italian coach is currently in his second spell managing Real Madrid, where he has won two Champions League titles, but he is out of contract in the Spanish capital at the end of the campaign.

“He never stops reinventing himself and analysing his games,” Carvajal said on Tuesday. “For me, he can stay as long as he wants to stay.”

When pressed on Ancelotti’s future, Carvajal added: “Let’s see, we all know how it is with coaches in football. I, of course, would renew his contract tomorrow.

“He knows that if this team doesn’t win anything, it’s the coach’s head that’s on the chopping block, as well as some of the players.”

At the same press conference, Ancelotti refused to discuss his future on several occasions amid ongoing speculation over where he will be managing next season.

When asked if he would like to be at a club for as long as Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid, Ancelotti responded: “It is a special case like Ferguson at United, Wenger at Arsenal, but it’s not normal. So congratulations.”

Asked on Carvajal’s words that he is the best coach: “He’s right (laughs). I have told the club to renew Dani until 2030. We have agreed to push the club together. I’m joking. I thank him for his words. He is an example of professionalism.”

Ancelotti has won six trophies since returning to Real Madrid in the summer of 2021 but missed out on the league title to Barcelona last season while his side were eliminated of the Champions League at the semi-final stage by Manchester City.
