HUNTSVILLE | The UAH women’s soccer team begins Gulf South Conference play for the 2023 campaign with two weekend matches at Charger Park against Shorter Friday at 7 p.m. followed by a 1 p.m. contest versus No. 25 Lee Sunday.

The Chargers enter their fourth match of the season with a 2-1-0 overall record after most recently falling to Nova Southeastern at home 4-2 last Friday. Jayla Gillespie and Maria Jansen each notched a goal for UAH in the matchup.

UAH has continued to see balanced scoring from its roster this season, as six different Chargers have scored goals this campaign led by Gillespie’s team-high two markers.

Ardis Haskell has played the majority of time in goal for the Chargers, accruing eight saves and four goals allowed in 196 minutes of work.

Shorter comes into the matchup in the Rocket City with a 1-3 overall record after most recently falling at Faulkner by a score of 2-0. The Hawks are led by Juliana Torres with five points on two goals and one assist, while Tatum Ballinger and Karis Eccleston have split time in goal for a combined 2.50 goals against average.

Lee enters the weekend undefeated thus far in 2023 with a 2-0-2 overall record, following a 3-0 victory at Trevecca Nazarene this past Saturday. The Flames offense is guided by Ellie Crisley and Alaysia Nye with two goals apiece, with Abby Whitcomb playing the full time in goal with a 0.50 goals against average through four matches.
