Protest against Grantville mayor draws few | News

He has been involved in an ongoing feud with Grantville Mayor Richard Proctor. The mayor had him cited for filming without first asking permission from the city council, as professional television and movie film companies do. Municipal Judge Lisa Reeves tossed out the citation.

Pickron organized the protest to recall the mayor during which he livestreamed and talked to his online followers.

A few disgruntled Grantville residents attended the protest or joined once they found it.

Selma Coty, who recently applied for a seat on the city’s Council-appointed Historic Preservation Commission, said she was there because she believes Mayor Richard Proctor has violated federal, state and local laws. She named federally granted freedom of speech and state and local laws governing millage rate increases as the ones he had broken.

“I don’t know if it’s out of ignorance. But if it is, he needs to bring up his learning curve and do it fast,” Coty said. “We don’t need any more lawsuits. My God, I’m surprised that our insurance company still covers us because we have had so many lawsuits.”

She was joined by Barham Lundy, who was walking by City Hall and stopped to ask what they were doing. Lundy said he was upset that the mayor was infringing on his rights.

“This is the United States of America. We operate in a democracy,” Lundy said. “Our rights are being taken away from us in this city here. We don’t have the right to express our opinions if you’re for something or against it.”
