Residents concerned about future of Wyatt Road | News

Each of the residents asked for the county to help fix the road and said that with the current state of the road, they were being denied delivery services to their homes.

“The nine property owners need safe access to their homes,” said Wyatt Road resident Wyatt Morrison. “This is the only road we have (to) access (our homes).”

Wyatt Road is off SR 16 between Turin and Senoia. The northern section of the road is a private easement, but the county maintains the southern section. The residents need the county to help with the northern section.

However, it is not the county’s responsibility to maintain that section because it falls on the property of William Brown. Neighbors said Brown has been far from cooperative with the county.

“Over the years, he’s had the ability to violently threaten and bully the county and the residents of Wyatt Road,” said Morrison.

According to Director of Public Works Todd Handley, Brown has denied the county permission to maintain that section of the road.

“I’m not familiar with actions we’ve taken in the past,” said Handley. “I know it’s been a problem since the early ’90s.”

The owner of the northern section has, in the past, objected to the county taking over maintenance of that section, according to County Administrator Michael Fouts.

In 2009, the county sent a letter of apology to Brown due to a county worker laying gravel on the easement on Brown’s property. The letter stated that the county would erect signage that clarifies what is and is not maintained by the county.
