Wyatt Road resident disputes claim on road preventing repairs | News

On March 12, Wyatt Road residents requested help from the county to refurbish the road, which had fallen into disrepair. However, the county is not responsible for maintaining the road, because the deteriorated portion is located on a private easement, the county cannot enter the property to maintain or improve the road, said County Administrator Michael Fouts in an email after the meeting.

The private easement lies on the property of William Brown who has not been cooperative with the county, according to Wyatt Road residents.

“Over the years, he’s had the ability to violently threaten and bully the county and the residents of Wyatt Road,” said Wyatt Road resident Wyatt Morrison at that meeting.

In a previous Newnan Times-Herald article, Director of Public Works Todd Handley said Brown has denied the county permission to maintain the private section of the road.

“I’m not familiar with actions we’ve taken in the past,” said Handley in the article. “I know it’s been a problem since the early ’90s.”

But, Vicki Wyatt, a Wyatt Road resident, claimed to have a land survey from 1975, when her father bought the property that her family grew up on, that would declare Brown’s claim on the road as a false claim, she said.

After the meeting, Wyatt declined to comment further.

During the meeting, County Commissioner Al Smith requested a copy of the land survey from Wyatt, so the county could verify its authenticity.

Fouts said the county is looking for available options concerning the road.
