Newnan Kiwanis Club transfers property to Coweta County | Local News

In the same vote, the county dissolved its agreement with the Kiwanis Club regarding their use of the fairgrounds and established a new one.

With the new agreement, the Newnan Kiwanis Club deed the property via a limited warranty deed.

The new agreement goes into effect on April 1, 2024.

The Newnan Kiwanis Club may rent the fairgrounds for up to 21 days to host the County Fair. In exchange for the property, the Kiwanis Club is waived from paying the fairgrounds’ rental fees for five years.

After five years, the club will pay 25 percent of the county’s published daily rate for using the facilities for the fair. Setup and takedown days are included in the daily rental fees, as are $5,000 for County labor and $2,500 for increased utility demand.

According to the agreement, the total rent rate will be, at most, $50,000 annually.

If the county terminates the agreement before April 1, 2029, it must pay the club $30,000 each year the Kiwanis club does not rent the fairgrounds from the date of the agreement.

The county commissioners also:

• Approved using a Local Maintenance Improvement Grant from the Georgia Department of Transportation to rehabilitate approximately 12 miles of county roads this summer.
• Approved county roads for Tour of Coweta, an annual bike ride that benefits the Newnan Rotary Club, on April 20, 2024.
• Approved a construction agreement with CSX Railroad for a bridge over the railroad as part of the future Madras Connector. The new bridge will be located approximately 1,200 south of the existing at-grade railroad crossing on Herring Road and will allow for the existing crossing to be closed.
