FAYETTE COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — Two schools in Fayette County were evacuated Monday morning after officials received a bomb threat in the form of an email.
According to Fayette Police Chief Danny Jenkins, the email came in at approximately 9 a.m. Monday and specifically targeted Fayette County High School. FCHS Principal Jennifer Sanford immediately notified staff, parents and the police, subsequently dismissing students.
Police searched the high school and nearby Fayette Middle School using bomb-detecting dogs, turning up nothing in the investigation. While the middle school resumed classes, FCHS dismissed for the day at 12:30 p.m.
No information has been released on who sent the original threat. The case is under investigation.
