Chattahoochee Hills seeking public comment on universal access park trails | Arts & Community

The Wheel Beautiful: RiverLands Scenic Universal Access Trail will invite all residents and visitors in the City from the very young to the very old to experience nature, including woodlands, meadows, views of the Chattahoochee River and a pollinator meadow featuring native wildflowers.

The site chosen for the approximately mile-long trail has varied habitats yet level topography, and the only trailhead in the city equipped with accessible parking and accessible restroom facilities.

The trail can be easily traversed, whether on foot, with a stroller, or in a wheelchair. It will be 6 feet wide, with a firm, stable surface and have 4 locations with benches for resting and observing nature – a picnic area, 2 viewing platforms and a footbridge.

The trail will also enable users to view the Chattahoochee River from a location well removed from vehicular traffic.

The Wheel Beautiful Trail dovetails nicely with the Camp+Paddle Trail site, also in the City’s RiverLands Park, which is part of the 100 mile long Chattahoochee RiverLands Greenway Study.

The Camp+Paddle Trail site is currently under construction, directed by the Trust for Public Land with funding from the Georgia Outdoor Stewardship Program. Its estimated completion date is summer 2024, and it will provide accessible restrooms and parking at the trailhead for the Wheel Beautiful Trail.
