“There’s just so much bandwidth or capacity in the city clerk’s office and the city manager’s office,”

Grieshaber said. “We cannot afford to hire additional employees and stay within our adopted budget.”

The Veterans Park is a triangle of property bordered by Magnolia Lane and Lone Oak and Cleveland streets.

Councilman David Clark proposed installing flagpoles around the perimeter of the park for the flags of each branch of the military service as well as the U.S. and state of Georgia.

He estimated the total cost for the flagpoles would be $4,000.

“We’re really going to try to spend some money and make it a nice place,” Clark said before the work session.

He hoped to have the project finished in time for Memorial Day. But Grieshaber had his doubts.

“I have to admit, the mayor and city council members have accomplished more in the last 14 months than previous administrations,” Grieshaber said. “However, everything accomplished falls on the employees to implement. We prioritize on a daily basis.”

The city has relied on volunteer help to accomplish some projects. Mayor Proctor helped rewire City Hall over the weekend, the city manager said.

The staff is working on projects approved in the city’s Capital Improvements Plan and the renovation of the freight depot included in the LCI Master Plan, which was approved two years ago, he said.

“We’ll get to it,” Grieshaber said. “Please be patient. We’ll get it done.”
