Coweta County Fire Rescue marks major milestone | News

Last weekend, The Coweta County Fire Department celebrated its 50th anniversary of its transition from a fully volunteer fire department to the county’s first paid staff in 1973.

At the time, there were three fire stations – West, East and Southeast – and the paid staff consisted of 18 staff including then-Chief Bill Lott. But even then, it was a combination department that still leaned on the labor of volunteers to help out at fire calls, according to Coweta County Fire Rescue Chief Robbie Flanagan.
