Jonesboro High band featured in Super Bowl halftime commercial | Education

The commercial’s theme is to incorporate Atlanta culture commemorating Usher’s influence on music and his selection as the Super Bowl LVIII Halftime Show headliner.

Selected to represent Atlanta’s marching band culture, the Marching Cardinals’ participation marks the first time a metro Atlanta high school band has been featured in a Super Bowl commercial.

The Jonesboro high school students who were chosen to participate in the Super Bowl ad began rehearsing for this project the day after Christmas. The band had just two days to put together a complete show for the commercial production team to use for the commercial.

“I actually cried watching the film,” casting director Lala Means said. “It was an amazing moment to see them live up to the challenge and exceed our expectations on set,” said Lala Means, casting director.

The commercial will continue to air nationwide leading up to Super Bowl LVIII.

“This is a monumental moment in the lives of our students that deepens the rich history of the Majestic Marching Cardinals Band program under the leadership of Mr. Lynel Goodwin and strengthens the connection between our school community and the culture of Metro-Atlanta,” said Superintendent Anthony W. Smith. “This highly-decorated group of talented students represents us exceptionally well, and we are excited for the world to see how we do it, right here in Clayton County.”
