If you have ever taken Marta to the airport, you probably thought it was a really convenient way to avoid the crazy traffic downtown. You also skipped the hassle and expense of parking at the airport, which sometimes is full.Â
Beginning in the second week of April, the MARTA station will be temporarily closed for remodeling. The inconvenience will last at least six weeks, but the modernization will allow travelers and employees of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport to be better served, according to MARTA. Â
During this time, they recommend taking MARTA to College Park Station, where shuttles connect to the airport. The closure dates are April 8 to May 19, 2024. Allow an extra 30 minutes when taking MARTA to the airport, they recommend. This construction is already underway, but the closure is necessary for safety, and it is estimated that it will speed up the completion date by 17 months.Â
Station improvements will include:
- New RideStore
- Public art installation
- Replacement of all signage
- Renovation of employee areas
- New canopy complementing Airport canopy
- New flooring on concourse and platforms levels
- New wall cladding, ceilings, and lighting in concourse
- Rehabilitation of existing elevator and installation of new elevator
